Awana Community Planting Day - Native Plant Restoration

Wednesday 8th July starting at 9 am - Park and meet at the Entrance to the DOC campground.

In order to help protect two rare native plant species located at Awana, a plant restoration project is underway along the Auckland Council esplanade land adjacent to the Awana stream and an adjacent DOC managed paddock, which is currently full of kikuyu.

This year we have around 400 plants to put in at that site grown by Motu Community Plant Nursery. So come along and help us on Wednesday 8th July starting at 9 am. Bring a good spade and a flax sickle to help clear the kikuyu. Digging holes in this ground is very hard work. Parking at the site is very limited so I suggest you park off the road at the entrance to the DOC camping ground.

At the completion of the planting, around 11.30 am, we will meet at Barry Scott’s place (123 Aotea Road, up the road from the Awana beach parking lot) for tea, coffee, biscuits and cake.

Please let Barry know if you are able to help.
