Aotea Pest Pathways Awareness Quiz Summary Report Now Available
The Aotea Pest Pathways Awareness Quiz Summary Report provides an overview of the community and visitor understanding of pests and pest pathways to Aotea / Great Barrier Island.
In total, 325 participants completed the online quiz, offering valuable insights into current awareness and knowledge around pest pathway risks and biosecurity requirements for the island.
Findings from the report show that the transition to an online format did not significantly reduce participation compared to previous ambassador-led efforts.
Awareness is good, and Aotea Residents are well informed.
Gaps exist in both resident and visitor awareness regarding pest pathways and available prevention services.
Participants recognised the important role that residents, visitors, businesses, transport operators, and agencies (can or need to) play in protecting Aotea.
Current messaging is lacking and is not adequately tailored to address Aotea’s specific biosecurity needs.
Data collected will help inform future biosecurity messaging and identify key areas where additional education and engagement may be beneficial to further protect Aotea from unwanted pest incursions.
